Is Nadu open yet? Last November, Vestar put out a press release announcing four new restaurant and bar concepts headed for the shopping center on Tatum Boulevard, each with its own opening window. Almost a year later, the actual sequence looks nothing like the one they announced.
That gap between the press release and the calendar is worth paying attention to, not because anyone was misled, but because it tells you something useful about how to read the next announcement out of that same shopping center.
The Announcement That Started It
The original news, which ran across several Phoenix outlets in November 2025, named four concepts joining Desert Ridge's existing lineup of Marino's Italian Kitchen & Bar, Barrio Queen, Kona Grill, Yard House, BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, Backyard, Jin Jia and Dave & Buster's. Kajiken Ramen, a Nagoya-style noodle bar known for its soup-less abura soba, was slated to open by the end of 2025. Nadu, a regional Indian restaurant from Chef Sujan Sarkar that had just landed in the 2025 Michelin Guide, was set for February 2026. Globe in the Dark, a travel-themed cocktail lounge, was pegged for early 2026. Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse, a full churrasco concept with tableside carving, was the anchor of the announcement, targeted for summer 2026.
Read together, it looked like a tight, sequential rollout. It wasn't.
What Was Promised, What Actually Happened

Kajiken landed closest to plan, slipping only a few weeks into the new year. Everything after that drifted further. Nadu opened five months later than announced. Globe in the Dark, originally the second concept expected to open, is only opening now, roughly eight months behind its own target. Terra Gaucha, the concept that got the most attention in the original press coverage, is now pushed a full year past its original summer 2026 date.
The Pattern Underneath the Slippage
None of this means the plans fell apart. It means the smaller, simpler build hit its date, and the more involved the concept, the further it drifted from its own announcement. Kajiken is a 1,720-square-foot noodle counter. Nadu needed 4,024 square feet built out for a full-service dining room. Terra Gaucha is taking over 7,669 square feet for an entire churrasco operation with tableside service and a hot-and-cold table that has to be built, staffed and permitted before a single guest walks in. The bigger and more custom the buildout, the more the calendar bent.
Vestar's own language around the project has stayed consistent even as the dates moved. Leann Meagher, the marketing director for Desert Ridge Marketplace, described the center's goal in blunt terms: people should be able to come, shop, and then go eat at their favorite restaurant without needing to drive anywhere else. That's a real strategy, and it's clearly working in terms of demand. It just hasn't made the buildout schedule any faster.
It's Not Just Restaurants
The same pattern is showing up on the retail side. Gap Factory is opening at Desert Ridge this September, right on the schedule Vestar announced in late August. Ann Taylor Factory follows in November, also close to its announced window. Sierra, the larger off-price retailer in the same round of announcements, isn't opening until spring 2027, the same season Terra Gaucha is now targeting. Smaller, faster buildouts keep their dates. Bigger footprints slide toward the following year.

Whatever gets announced next, expect the small stuff to open close to schedule and the anchor tenant to land a season or two behind whatever date makes the press release.
What This Means If You Live Here
For anyone planning a night out, a birthday dinner, or just trying to figure out what's actually available right now:
- Kajiken Ramen and Nadu are both open and have been for months, so if you've been holding off because you thought Nadu was still "coming soon," it's been serving dinner since July.
- Globe in the Dark is opening this month, so it's the newest thing to actually walk into rather than wait on.
- Terra Gaucha is not opening this year. If you were planning a special occasion dinner there for the holidays, that date has moved to spring 2027.
- Gap Factory and Ann Taylor Factory are worth checking for actual opening announcements rather than the original press cycle, since both are landing close to their own stated windows this fall.
None of this is a knock on Desert Ridge. A shopping center juggling four restaurant buildouts and three retail buildouts at once is always going to see some slippage, and the smaller concepts opening close to plan says the center is executing, just not at the pace the initial press release implied. It's a useful thing to know before you tell out-of-town guests that a specific restaurant will be open by the time they visit.
For those who split evenings between Desert Ridge and the private Tatum Ranch Golf Club just up the road, the same lesson applies inside the gates. The club, designed by Robert Cupp and now part of the Arcis Golf portfolio, runs its own calendar of clubhouse dining and seasonal member events that don't depend on anything happening at the marketplace. Between the two, Tatum Ranch residents have more going on within a few minutes of home than the neighborhood gets credit for, even when the timing on any one opening doesn't match the announcement.
